The class explores the history of hip-hop dance in the form of Breaking, Rocking and the development of creative movement. Each student is introduced to the foundation of the dance form in order to build his or her own individual style, vocabulary, technique, and flow. The exercises focus on solo routines and group routines that strengthen teamwork, self-expression and creative thinking. The students build on the performance techniques of characterization, innovative approaches in composition, and improvisation.
Rank System: Students will be tested quarterly in the B.I.A rank system.
Activities: Students are expected to participate in the school's showcases, dance events with local school partners, and photo/video shoots.

Guidelines and Expectations: Students are expected to attend every class and to be ready to participate fully and respectfully at all times. If a student misses a class they must schedule a make-up class. A track jacket is required. Knee pads and beanie hats are optional.
