The Breaking Institute of the Arts (B.I.A) focuses on developing students to become artistic leaders through art education. The school concentrates on teaching strong fundamentals and guiding the students to develop and embrace their own identity and style through the arts. "One must be set free in order to have one's own style." This is one of B.I.A's mottos. Students are encouraged to break down boundaries. This will help them discover what makes them special, strengthen their individuality and learn how to work well with others. B.I.A students are the next generation of international artists and community leaders!
B.I.A offers residency classes in NYC, and is licensed vendor with the NYC Department of Education. We have facilitated programs at a wide range schools including public schools, private schools, and universities including NYU TISCH School of the Arts, along with facilitating programs in the United States and abroad.
The available programs include: dance, music production and jewelry design.

About the founder / Instructor: Ken Fury
Kenneth Marez Jr. (Ken Fury) is an artist working in multiple mediums including, painting, jewelry, music, dance, photography, and filmmaking. He is from Pueblo, Colorado, with origins descending from Native American and Hispano bloodlines from New Mexico. His art explores the duality of nature such as creation and destruction with an emphasis on multi-dimensional figurations, abstractions, and spaces, eroticism, spirituality, and transformation. “My art is part of one expanding environment that focuses on stimulating all the senses while relying on intuition to create spontaneous works that attempt to pierce the core of emotion and spirit.”
His approach encompasses all his art forms including breakdancing. Ken’s signature style has won him over 30 of the top dance competitions around the world. He has taught at New York University’s TISCH School of the Arts, Seoul Institute of the Arts, and the Jakarta Institute of the Arts. He has performed at Central Park Summer Stage, Madison Square Garden, Kennedy Center, and The Smithsonian in Washington DC.
Ken’s fluidity in movement bleeds over into his artwork. His paintings focus on otherworldly scenes and emotions through the vibrancy of colors, shapes, and inter-dimensional characters that tie into his indigenous roots. Ken Fury specializes in one-of-a-kind sculptural jewelry that is handmade using traditional metalsmithing techniques. His jewelry and artwork has been featured in art galleries, boutiques, film productions, publications and museums including: Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe, NM. Ken Fury started making jewelry in 2006, he is self-taught, and also graduated from Studio Jewelers Ltd. in Manhattan.
In 2010, Ken began his experiments in music with the idea of merging his poetry and paintings into a sonic space. He has self-produced and released three albums, Flowers Fall Asleep, Moonlight Bloom and The Cry of Nature’s Birth. Ken has performed at underground music venues in New York City, along with performing on WFMU radio station. Ken Fury is working on his fourth album Rain Over Clouds.
